The suspended IPS officer Sanjay Bhatt has been sent to judicial custody after a Gujarat Court on Saturday rejected the application for police remand.
After conducting various searches at the suspended IPS officer's residence for the second time in 24 hours, the police had sought seven-day judicial custody of Bhatt. Bhatt was produced in court on Saturday soon after his arrest on Friday.
Earlier on Saturday, Bhatt's wife, Shweta Bhatt on Saturday alleged that he was under threat and was not being allowed to meet his lawyer.
Shweta Bhatt, the wife of the cop, has written a letter to the top cops and senior government officials with respect to it.
In the letter, Shweta pointed out that her husband had been surprisingly shifted to the crime branch office which already has a bad reputation of fake encounters.
She added that the branch was directly under the control of the present Chief Minister.
However, the police denied the fact that there was any kind of threat to Bhatta's life.
Reacting to the letter of Shweta, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner pointed out that Sudhesh Sinha pointed out that the lawyers were not allowed to meet their clients within 24 hours of custody in most of the cases.
Sinha said that there is no threat to his life and he has been kept under the custody and in 99.99 per cent of the cases, lawyers are not allowed to meet their clients within 24 hours of custody and if there is any request, they do consider them.
Bhatt, who had accused Chief Minister Narendra Modi of abetting the 2002 riots, was arrested on Friday. He has been charged with forgery and conspiracy.
The arrest came, after one of his juniors, K D Pant, alleged that Bhatt had forced him to file a false affidavit against Modi.
The affidavit stated that Bhatt was present at the February 27, 2002 meeting at which Modi had allegedly told the police to go slow on the rioters.
BJP hinted the arrest as a routine and which had aroused only on the basis of a complaint filed against him. Whereas the Congress said that Bhatt was being victimized and his premises were raided again and again without any proper information and added that there is no law and order in Gujarat.
