No specific threat to Kolkata

The Kolkata police has said that there is no specific threat to metropolis bu it is keeping a strong vigil on the entry and exit points of the city. The authoritis says that there has been no specific threat but still they are alrm in railway stations, airports, bus terminal etc.

Also the authorities states that the shopping malls and multiplexes and shopping places are being monitored seriously.

However, the former DGP Bhupinder Singh is doubtful of the city's prepardeness to meet the challenge in case of terror strikes.

He said that if the attack can happen in a place like Mumbai where the intelligence and the Anti-Terror Squad are very strong, then he was doubtful whether they could protect Kolkata from such attacks. And also if any international organisation is being involved, then he was doubtful to take any effective action against them in a quick manner.

In support to this, another top police officer said that the metropolis is not having the adequate infrastructure to tackle a terror attack.

Singh, however siad that the Kolkata police had proved their effeciency by cracking the Januray 2002 American Center terrorist attck case within a short period.

He also added that the people of Kolkata are very helpful and in numerous cases they have helped the police force.
