Justice KK Narendran passed away

Former High Court Judge Justice KK Narendran passed away in a private hospital in Kochi owing to respiratory ailments.

He was of the age 88, and has worked a Kerala high Court Judge for a span of one year from 1974 to 1975.

He was born at Moothakunnam on August 28, 1923 and had begun his career as a journalist with Deenabandhu after his college education. Later, he joined the Kerala Kaumudi as its Ernakulam reporter.

As a journalist he was highly committed to his profession and during his days at Kaumudi, he was very close to the editor of Kerala Kaumudi, K Sukumaran.

In the year 1951, after completing his studies, he began to practice as a junior of the late advocate T N Sundara Iyer.

As an advocate, he made a remarkable mark in the field of constitution, education, civil and service cases. After a prolonging 23 years of service as an advocate, later he was appointed as an additional judge in the High Court on May 30, 1974.

On August 22, 1985, Justice Narendra retired from the service.

After his long and elaborate career in the judicial service, he was in the forefront of all major social activities.

He was always involved in the common issues of Ernakulam district and Kochi city in particular.

He has involved in a number of important issues that has affected the social life of Kerala. He has also acted as the Chairman of the three member commission for giving suggestions in reservation-related issues- including the creamy layer issue.

The commission was appointed to study the role of the backward communities in governmental service, public service enterprises and educational institutions- including universities. Later the report given by Justice Narendra stating that the backward communities will get a clear representation had led to a lot of discussions in the state.

Later in the year September 2007, he had took charge of the commission to probe into the Rajakumari land deal in which former minister T U Kuruvila and his family members were allegedly involved.

He had also written various books on various legal aspects. He used to work with Kerala Law Times in the publication of legal books.

Kerala Education Rules, Kerala service Laws, Labour Laws, Property Laws, Building Rent Rules, Taxation Manual, Agriculture Tax Laws, Kerala Debt Recovery Manual, Kerala Debt Recovery Act, Agriculture Tax Laws and Essential Goods Act are some of the books penned by Justice Narendran.
