Dominique Strauss Kahn facing second charge

A senior investigator said that the eventual dismissal of charges against him was a certainty. Newspaper quoted its source as saying that "this case is not at all sustainable". The source told the newspaper that her credibility is bad now, and hence cannot proceed with the case referring to the hotel maid who had accused Strauss Kahn of trying to rape her in a luxury hotel in Manhattan. But revelations that the accuser had lied about being raped earlier and changed details of her story about what she did after the incident in Strauss Kahn's hotel suite have undermined her credibility and left prosecutors struggling to make a case. A judge released Strauss Kahn from house arrest and lifted strict bail conditions, although the serious charges against him still remain in place. Now another charge has been raised against him. Tristane Banon, a 32 year old journalist and writer, will file for charges on Tuesday over an alleged attack in Paris apartment in 2003 where she claims that Strauss Kahn tried to unhook her bra and open her jeans. Her lawyer, David Koubbi said the complaint would reach the Paris Prosecutor's office by Wednesday. This case comes up as soon as the case brought by the hotel maid is on the verge to close. Strauss Kahn was freed from his strict bail conditions on the ground of raising doubts over the credibility of her character. This had developed certain hopes in the minds of his supporters who thought he would again return to French politics if acquitted in the US, perhaps even running for President next year for the opposition socialist. However, the latest development appeared to make that extremely unlikely.
