Despite crackdown, ragging continues in Chennai colleges

The senior students have devised many ways of harassing first year students by forbidding them to wear branded clothes and forcing them to go their home unreserved.
Despite the stringent measures adopted by the government and colleges, still ragging continues in many private institutions. Often, the practice crosses the line of mere ragging and takes the form of bullying and even violence.
A first year mechanical engineering student has rightly said that they are not allowed to go to shopping malls and cinemas during the first year. The seniors enforce these rules strictly and ensure that they are put to maximum pain during their initial first year. Also added that the first year students were strictly prohibited from interacting with their classmates, especially of the opposite sex, on campus or outside.
A student from an Engineering College near Old Mahabalipuram Road said that even in cases where bullying crosses the limits of endurance, most students remains silent because they have paid huge capitation and course fees.
One of the student also expresses his helplesness stating that the amount which their family send for their personal use are even sometimes forcefully taken away by their seniors. Noone was allowed to keep any money with themselves after paying the hostel fees.
SS Rao, Registrar of Sathyabhama College said that they were closely monitoring all the colleges. State Higher Education Minister P Palaniappan recently said that the government is considering the feasibility of setting up a state level helpline to take complaints directly from ragging victims, in line with the national desk of the University Grants Commission.

In fall, those who want a bigger cloud, to put more data online, can buy more space from Apple. Such data storage services already have Microsoft and HP.

Even if Chrome OS operating system that only works via the Internet has just been announced, there was already a pretty big competition, there are some programs more than five years.

Here are the most common: CloudMe, EyeOS, Glide and JoliOS.

All of this, at least with one year before Windows 8.

Team Anna rallies behind Kiran Bedi on privilege issue

Team Anna Hazare on Tuesday rallied behind its key member Kiran Bedi who is facing a breach of privilege notice in Parliament for making controversial remarks against MPs, warning such move will be  perceived by the people as lawmakers seek way to pay revenge on them.
A key team memmber, Arvind Kejriwal said that the entire team is solidly behind Bedi. He said that she will respond to the notice as and when the notice is received. The notice has not been received so far and it does not constitute the breach of privilege of Parliament.
Prashant Bhushan, Lawyer and another Anna Hazare Team member said the move to serve a notice to Bedi was unfortunate as she had not said anything which could be termed as a breach of privilege.
He claimed that there had also been talks that he and another member Arvind Kejriwal will also get privilege notices.
Bhushan told the reporters that perhaps the MPs are thinking that our fight is against MPs as we talk about their corruption. People will find it as a way for the MPs to seek revenge.
Bedi, the former IAS officer said on Monday that she was not going to apologise and  was prepared for any punishment.
In contrast to Bedi's stand, actor Om Puri, who was facing the breach of privilege notice, apologised for using derogatory remarks to put down the political class.

Latest Anti-Fingerprint Technology for iPhone 5

The current coatings for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch are not effective and lasts for a month but this new patent filed by Apple is apparently more effective in protecting the touch screen devices from smears.

The Physical Vapor Desposition technology will reportedly protect your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch from fingerprints and avoid the need to constantly wipe out your device. This new technology coats the screens of your touch device with an oil resistant ‘oleophobic’ coating.
This technique applies thin films of vaporized materials onto i-device’s surface. This special coating comes in liquid form inside a pressurized bottle and is purged by an inert gas to avoid its contact with air, heat or humidity during the manufacturing process, before it is applies to the device’s surface.

Report - iPhone 5 to be a dual-mode world phone

Apple's upcoming iPhone 5 will support access to both CDMA and GSM networks, allowing it to operate in most countries around the world, a source tells TechCrunch.

An unidentified app developer reportedly pulled information from registration logs that show two distinct mobile network codes (MNC) / mobile country codes (MCC). These codes, which are believed to have been entered by testers of a single device using Apple's upcoming mobile operating system iOS 5, are unique mobile network identifiers belonging to Verizon and AT&T, TechCrunch said.

Apple now caters to both companies, but the devices are not designed to operate on each other's networks; Verizon's works on the CDMA standard, while AT&T's iPhone 4 operates on a GSM network, the dominant global wireless technology and the standard in Europe.

While the iPhone 5 has been long rumored to be a CDMA/GSM world phone, Verizon's iPhone has always had this capability, although it's not activated. Teardowns of the device showed that it sports the Qualcomm MDM6600 chip, the same chip that's used in the Droid Pro world phone.

TechCrunch concluded that a dual-mode phone would suggest that the iPhone 5 would not support LTE. However, Apple's latest developer builds for iOS 5 contain a snippet of code that mentions LTE, according to enthusiast site MacRumors, prompting speculation that the company may be testing 4G internally.

The hotly anticipated next edition of Apple's smartphone is expected to be released in October

iPhone 5 - Apple to Capture Consumers Again

Online shopping site PriceGrabber found that Apple still has what it takes to win consumers over with its smartphone offering. The company recently surveyed consumers about the upcoming release of the iPhone 5and found, specifically, that 35 percent of the respondents plan to buy the new device upon its release.
James Brown, the Senior Director of Merchant Accounts with PriceGrabber, told us that the survey also revealed that 51 percent of consumers planned to purchase it within the first year, 14 percent within the first month, and 7 percent within the first week.
Consumers may expect more user friendly apps interface, Longer version of battery usage and yes not the least, Lower price for sure.
Although the exact date of the iPhone 5 release has not been made public, it is expected to be available sometime this fall.
Are you planning to buy the iPhone 5?
According to a report issued today by the Wall Street Journal, Sprint will join AT&T and Verizon in offering iPhone handsets starting this fall with the launch of Apple’s next-generation iPhone 5 handset.
Sprint is currently the third-largest wireless carrier in the country, behind Verizon and AT&T respectively. With more than fifty million customers, Sprint represents a huge new market for Apple and its wildly-selling iPhone. After launching the first iPhone handset exclusively with AT&T, Apple has continually moved to add new carrier partners to continue its push to become the number-one smartphone manufacturer in the world.
Interestingly, the United States was the first country to receive Apple’s iPhone in 2007, but the last to drop carrier exclusivity which only happened in January of this year with the launch of the CDMA iPhone 4 handset on Verizon. The rumor mill has been speculating that Sprint and T-Mobile were possible new carriers that would be on board following the launch of the iPhone 5; this new report from a source as reputable as the Wall Street Journal seemingly confirms it. As T-Mobile is currently in merger negotiations with AT&T, it’s likely that subscribers will have access to the iPhone in the future anyway.
