State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) found Rs. 5 lakh at former CM's residence and CPM MLA, Sushanta Ghosh's Kolkata apartment in Minto Park on Friday afternoon. A few days earlier he was arrested in connection with the murder of seven Trinamool Congress activists at Piyashal village.
On June 4 2011, five human skulls and bones were found in a mass grave at Benachapra village, close to Ghosh's ancestral home in West Midnapore. As per the reports the Congress activists are said to be missing from September 22, 2002. Two bodies were recovered but five remained missing.
Following the recovery of the skulls, Syamal Acharya, son of one of the missing victims, claimed one of the skeleton as his father's. CID appointed a six member team led by Special Superintendent Rishikesh Meena. They raided Ghosh's residence and found Rs.5 lakh and found some documents. Earlier the CID officers recovered two imported wireless radio sets from West Midnapore house and booked him under the Indian Telegraph Act for illegally possessing walkie-talkies.
Officers also recovered ammunition from his brother Prashanta Ghosh's room at his ancestral Benachapra house. CID claimed the recovered ammunition was meant for imported guns. DIG CID operations confirmed the seizure of cash. Both Sushant and his brother were involved with an interstate arms smuggling racket active in South Bengal.
