Nokia officially announced the launch of the N9 smartphone in stores

Nokia announced on its official that the Nokia N9 will be sold internationally. The phone was available until now through preorder in several countries countries.



The phone is even expected to be the first and last as you will run the MeeGo operating system. Also, the smartphone will be produced in only 92,000 units.



Nokia N9 is differentiated by a unique design, which some specialized sites writed that it could a source of inspiration for the following Nokia models that will run on Windows Phone.

Nokia N9 is available in three colors: black, cyan and magenta, with storage options from 16 to 64 GB. The estimated price could reach 560 euros for the most expensive option, depending on memory.

Yahoo! phone will be launched next month in Japan

A Yahoo branded phone will be launched next month in Japan, where the American site is among the most accessed, writes TechCrunh. The phone will be launched by SoftBank, the third largest mobile operator in Japan, which is the majority shareholder of Yahoo Japan.



The handset is produced by Sharp and has a 4 inch screen, 8 megapixel camera, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and memory card slot.



In addition, the phone has e-wallet function, which means it can be used as an electronic wallet. This is not unusual in the Land of the Rising Sun, Japan to pay for purchases using the phone for many years.

Yahoo Phone, a possible rival for iPhone 5?

The phone is actually a rebranding AQUOS PHONE 009SH model, developed by Sharp and launched by SoftBank Mobile in a few weeks ago.



It is expected that the new Yahoo smartphone users to find specific Android operating system applications, and Japanese popular Yahoo services: Japan Home, Yahoo Calendar, Japan Auctions, Yahoo Dictionary or Yahoo Loco. Softbank will deliver the Yahoo phone in Japan starting September this year.

We are here at Nokia's press event at CTIA 2011 in Orlando where Nokia just announced the Nokia  Astound, a Symbian 3 smartphone for T-Mobile USA. The Nokia  Astound is a re-branded version of the C7, which we found out earlier today would be arriving for T-Mobile.

Nokia  Astound has the same specifications of the C7, which means a 3.5-inch AMOLED touchscreen display with 640x360 pixels of resolution and an 8-megapixel camera with a dual-LED flash and HD video-recording capabilities at 720p (1280x720 pixels) resolution. An FM radio and FM transmitter, 802.11b/g/n WiFi support, Bluetooth 3.0, and a 3.5mm headphone jack also come standard.

Nokia  Astound is equipped with 8GB of storage built-in and supports up to 32GB microSD cards, for a total of 40GB of possible storage. The phone measures 117.3mm x 56.8mm x 10.5mm (4.6in x 2.2in x .41in) and weighs 130g (4.5oz). The Astound's battery should provide up to 5 hours of talk time.

Nokia has also added some new features to the Astound. There is a much-needed portrait QWERTY keyboard, a Swype keyboard option, a new browser, and a split-screen for text input. Users will benefit from free turn-by-turn GPS navigation services provided by Ovi Maps. Maps for the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean come pre-loaded.

Nokia C6-01Symbian 3 Smartphone

Nokia announced the Nokia C6-01, a new version of its C6 smartphone. The latest version offers the Symbian 3 operating system and drops the QWERTY keyboard found on the original C6 for a 3.2-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with a 640 x 360 pixel resolution.
The Nokia C6-01 offers live feeds from social networks, an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus and dual-led flash, and a secondary camera for video calling. The phone also features an FM radio, 802.11b/g/n WiFi connectivity, Bluetooth 3.0, aGPS, USB-on-the-go, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It's worth noting that the phone's camera is capable of recording 720p HD video that can be stored on microSD cards as large as 32GB.

The Nokia C6-01 measures 103.8mm x 52.5mm x 13.9mm (4in x 2in x .54in) and weighs 131g (4.62). It's expected to launch during the fourth quarter, but pricing for the device wasn't announced.

Nokia is surpassed by sales of Apple and Samsung smartphones

Apple, followed closely by Samsung, surpassed the market share of Nokia's smartphones, worldwide, in the second quarter, according to market research conducted by Strategy Analytics.



Nokia, the market leader in this segment for 15 years, has fallen to 3rd in sales ranking of smartphone behind Apple and Samsung. Nokia declined in market share to 15.2% from 38.1 percent, but held a year ago, as consumers opted for more sophisticated operating systems developed by Apple and Google. As a result Nokia was forced to collaborate with Microsoft to produce Windows Phone.



In the future, Apple's success depends on keeping the iPhone launch, which, according to several sources on the market, will take place in September.



Samsung announced that profits fell, but sales of smartphones have increased. Samsung announced that it has sold 5 million units of the model Galaxy S II, only 85 days since it was on sale.

Nokia 500, another Nokia smartphone with Symbian Anna OS

Yesterday, on 1 August, Nokia announced it's latest smartphone, Nokia 500, a low-cost smartphone with touchscreen and a powerfull processor.



Nokia 500 comes with the latest Symbian Anna OS, 1 GHz processor and 2 GB storage capacity, but can be extended up to 32 GB. It has a 3.2 inch capacitive display with a screen resolution of 640 x 360 pixels.

Nokia 500 is equipped with radio, Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi b/g, 3G HSUPA. The phone weight is only 93 grams and it measures 111.3 x 53.8 x 14.1 mm, making it lighter than all the others Symbian OS phones so far.



The phone comes from factory with 2GB internal memory which can be increased by adding a micro SD card up to 32GB.



According to Nokia the phone battery can provide between 5 and 7 days of conversation, 450 hours in standby or up to 35 hours of music playback.



Although the phone is equipped with a powerful 1GHz processor, Nokia 500 is only an entry-level smartphone wich will be sold for approximately €150 without taxes.

Samsung Admire, a new smartphone from Samsung with Android OS

Images with Samsung Admire leaked on the internet, 2 months before the official launch of the new android smartphone.



This model will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread, it will have a 3,5 inch display and a 3.2 MP camera with flash.

Samsung Admire (code name SCH-R720) will be equipped with a 800 MHz procesor, 3G capabilities, GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth.



Samsung Admire it will be probably launched in September and it will be sold with 150 $ for a subscription.

Samsung Galaxy S II to arrive in UK on April 27th | but only through Phones 4u

UK phone retailer Phones 4u has scooped itself a short-term but enviable exclusive -- it'll be the only place in the UK where you'll be able to buy Samsung's Galaxy S II in April. The 1.2GHz dual-core


 Android superphone has already been announced for wide availability in the Queen's Kingdom on May 1st, but Phones 4u will get you one as early as April 27th, plus it'll throw in a free 8GB microSD card if you pre-order one now. The Galaxy S II will be available for free on two-year contracts costing £35 per month and above and there'll be a choice of carriers. Skype: responds to report of security hole

Skype Profile info left vulnerable to malicious applications

Skype on Friday issued a public response to a security issue uncovered recently that leaves some profile and message information open and vulnerable to malicious applications. Uncovered by Android Police, the vulnerability deals with the way the Skype Android application stores some personal information, making your profile information -- and your Skype contacts' profile information (among other bits of Skype data) -- easily found and scraped by any application that wants to. Skype, on its blog, has said:

It has been brought to our attention that, were you to install a malicious third-party application onto your Android device, then it could access the locally stored Skype for Android files.

These files include cached profile information and instant messages. We take your privacy very seriously and are working quickly to protect you from this vulnerability, including securing the file permissions on the Skype for Android application.

To protect your personal information, we advise users to take care in selecting which applications to download and install onto their device.

That's a fairly serious hole, and it's good that it was discovered, reported and is being fixed. So have you been in any danger all this time? Possibly, but you would have had to have installed a malicious application that knew to run this exploit in the first place. Chances of that are fairly low, but not out of the question. And it's important to remember that we're talking about Skype data, not the full contacts list on your phone. That doesn't mean it's not a gaping hole that needs to be closed; but neither are we worried about the sky falling. Be careful what you download, folks. [Skype, Android Police]

Sanyo Zio by Kyocera Review

For years there had been rumors on Sprint forums about a Sanyo smartphone; at first it was going to kill the Treo, then the BlackBerry.  These were back in Sanyo’s heydays when the manufacturer was winning customer satisfaction awards left and right.  That mythical smartphone never appeared, and Sanyo has fallen into the ranks of also-rans since then.  Sure, there have been some decent phones, but they have yet to venture out of the featurephone market, often content to stick with entry-level devices.  But now we have the Zio, the first smartphone from Sanyo to run Google’s Android platform.  The Sanyo Zio is a bit of a mixed bag, offering at the same time higher-end features such as a WVGA display and low end elements like a bit of a cheap feeling.  Like we said, it’s a mixed bag.  Included with the Zio you’ll find a 2GB microSD card, microUSB cable and AC adapter.

The Sanyo Zio is a black slab device, except that it’s got some significant silver on it.  The 3.5” 480x800 capacitive display dominates the phone and is quite a nice screen.  With 262K colors the TFT panel looks very good, especially with a high resolution and smaller screen size (the 4” Epic 4G and 4.3” EVO 4G also have WVGA resolutions) the pixel density is very good. The colors, however, are a bit off and in sunlight the display was washed out almost entirely.  When placed next to the Samsung Transform and HTC EVO 4G you could tell that the colors were over saturated, and in the same lighting conditions we could still use the Transform whereas the Zio needed to be shaded to be used.  The display also has responsiveness issues.  We often found ourselves having to select something multiple times before our input was registered, much like you would have to do on resistive touchscreens.  Another drawback is that it does not support multitouch, a feature we have grown accustomed to even in entry level smartphones.  

At just 3.7 oz the Sanyo Zio feels incredibly light in the hand.  This is nice because the device easily slips into your pocket without being noticed, but at the same time makes it feel cheap.  The lightness is likely due to the heavy use of plastic- in fact the total use of plastics.  It is nearly an ounce lighter than Sprint’s HTC Hero, a similarly sized device with a smaller display.

                         

World's first GLONASS-enabled smartphone ships in Russia

Well, would you look at that? The planet's first GLONASS phone is now available, but it looks as if you'll need to soar over to Russia in order to use it. Of course, if you've followed the GLONASS story at all you wouldn't find that shocking in the least, and if you choose to pick up the ZTE-built MTS GLONASS 945 on your next trip, you'll be treated to full-on GPS support back in the States. It's a Froyo-based device with a 3.2-inch capacitive touchpanel, 2 megapixel camera, 130MB of memory, Bluetooth / WiFi and a price tag of just under 11,000 Rubles.

 That's around $400 in real money, which you'll probably find suits you best in your wallet if you've already picked up the all-too-similar Vodafone 945. Here's hoping the world's second GLONASS phone is a bit more compelling in the design and feature standpoint, yeah?

Ah, ingenuity. We've seen Google's Android platform used for a host of unorthodox applications over the years, but David Almoslino's concoction deserves a round of golf claps to call its own. The so-called Replay Football system employs a Bluetooth-enabled Nerf football with a 9-axis inertial sensing motion processing module (MPU-6000 by InvenSense), and when linked to a visualization / throw analysis application, you're able to analyze the rotation of a football in real-time as it's thrown. From there, the app breaks down the nuts and bolts of the toss, and while it's not able to blurt out pointers on correcting things just yet, we're seeing endless potential for the next revision.
