HP webOS developers a chance to get a $150 TouchPad

HP webOS developers a chance to get a $150 TouchPad

The future of webOS may still be up in the air, but it looks like HP is at least still making a small effort to woo developers and keep its current ones in the fold.

It's now giving registered devs in the US, Canada and Europe a chance to get a 32GB HP TouchPad for the blowout price of $150 (or €150 in Europe), for a limited time and while supplies last. Unfortunately, it's not clear how many TouchPads will be available, but HP is allowing applicants to request up to two TouchPads each at the discounted price, so we'd assume it's more than just a handful

HP resurrect the TouchPad for a last attempt

Hewlett-Packard, the largest manufacturer of PCs in the world, just days after announcing the closure of the Division of PCs and tablets that led to the collapse of HP shares by 22%, plans to temporary "resurrect" the TouchPad tablet, betting that it could dethrone the iPhone from Apple.

HP officials announced that they will produce a final lot of tablets TouchPad on the grounds that they were "very surprised" by the high demand generated in the last week. The tablets have disappeared from the shelves of retailers like Amazon or BestBuy in a few hours after HP reduced the tablets price to 99 $ tablets in the weekend from $ 399 dollars. The drastic drop in price came as soon as company officials announced August 18 that will close the division of tablets as part of a series of decisions intended to remove the company from consumers and to focus on business customers.

On August 18 the company has also announced that it will separate the company's PC division. HP Board will meet in December to decide on future business with PCs although many expect it to be separate from the company.

Do you think that the post-PC era has started?

Tablets marked the beginning of post-PC era. The Hewlett-Packard (HP) decision to stop the division of personal computers not only confirms this, according to IT&C analysts interviewed by AFP.

American giant Hewlett-Packard announced it is considering the possibility to waive the production of personal computers, after sales dropped 17% in May-July 2011. HP shares fell on Friday by 20% after the announcement by company officials.

HP's general manager, Leo Apotheker said that the tablets effect is real, consumers and alter how they use PCs.

HP also plans to abandon the battle at the smartphones and tablets market, AP and Time magazine. HP failed to impose on a market dominated by Apple, even if investments in software or operating tablets were significant. TouchPad Tablet was launched last month.

Sarah Rotman Epps, an analyst at Forrester Research, believes the PC will not disappear, but their importance will decrease in favor of informatics services.

HP's Fusion-powered Pavilion dm1z

We know you -- you're that guy (or gal!) who simply can't resist dipping your toes into whatever's next, and in the case of AMD's Fusion, you almost certainly went out and grabbed up an HP Pavilion dm1z as soon as it hit the market. Nah, we aren't clairvoyant, just rational guessers. At any rate, now that you've had a solid two or three months with your Zacate-backed ultraportable, we're eager to know how you'd change things if given the golden key. Are you satisfied with the build quality? How's that heat? Feeling any jealousy for those who opted for Atom-based rigs? Are the keyboard and trackpad things you actually look forward to using? Go ahead and vent in comments below; it's Friday, it's your birthday, and HP's got an awfully thick coat of skin.

HP Veer, first hands-on!

How does the HP Veer look up close? Cute as a button, and small -- these pictures don't do it justice at all. We just got our hands on the pint-sized webOS 2.2 smartphone, and snapped a stack of pictures for your viewing pleasure. You won't be able to flip these around like playing cards, but they will give you a handle on what to expect from the miniature Pre 2 in the weeks or months to come, so

HP Pre 3 first hands-on!

The HP Pre 3 is here! We just got our hands on one and snapped a whole bunch of pictures -- see the gallery below. Stay tuned for our first impressions soon. We're also still working on our shots of the Veer and the TouchPad, but sharp eyes can find both devices in the gallery below -- there might even be some iPhone and Nexus S comparison shots, but we don't want to give too much away.
