Messenger: Pidgin
Pidgin is a multi-platform IM client, based on a library named libpurple. Libpurple has support for many commonly used instant messaging protocols (AIM, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, Google Talk, Groupwise, ICQ, IRC, MSN, MXit, MySpaceIM, QQ, SILC, SIMPLE, Sametime, XMPP, Yahoo, Zephyr), allowing users to log into various different services from only one application.

GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a free graphic editor. GIMP can accomplish essential image work-flow steps such as resizing, editing, and cropping photos, combining multiple images, and converting between different image formats. GIMP can also be used to create basic animated images in the GIF format.
Remote Access: TeamViewer Portable
With the portable version of TeamViewer you can control PC's remotely, wich have TeamViewer installed and an internet connection.
Compression: 7-Zip
The freeware program 7-Zip supports all common compression formats, including RAR.
