Confirmed! January 27th Apple Event to show off its latest creation

The most awaited event for Apple fans.. Will this be the apple tablet? islate? macbook touchscreen? or something that has to do with painting or music? WE will see on January 27th and will take place at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Thearter in San Francisco.

Hope this will not be that expensive. I will surely get one and upgrade my iphone classic. hehe

Apple Tablet PC Could Take In $1.2 Billion

Piper Jaffray senior analyst Gene Munster estimates that Apple could sell $1.2 billion worth of tablet PCs the first year the device is available.

Munster issued a report Friday saying that an unidentified Asian component supplier has received orders from Apple. This gives credence to long-standing, unconfirmed reports that an Apple tablet PC could be released by early 2010.

Munster believes Apple could sell 2 million tablets at a price range between $500 and $700. Based on the midpoint price, sales could reach $1.2 billion, adding 3% to Apple revenue in 2010.
The analyst's report follows a July Financial Times report that Apple could launch a tablet PC with a 10-inch diagonal screen as early as September. Quoting people who had been briefed on the project, the Times reported that the device would have the same capabilities as the iPod Touch, but with a larger screen that would make the gadget better for watching video or reading electronic books.

Apple has repeatedly denied that it would release a netbook, but a tablet would be a very different premium option, more in line with the company's approach to the PC market. Apple offers products at the high-end of the market, enticing buyers with innovative design, ease of use, and bundled software.

An Apple tablet would amount to a premium option to today's netbooks, inexpensive mini-laptops that are the fastest growing category in the PC market. Priced at less than $500, the systems have proven very popular during the current economic recession.

While many Apple tablet mockups have a borderless screen, this one is a little more robust-looking with its thick plastic edging. Also notable is that it appears to run the full Mac OS, albeit with icons inspired by the iPhone OS. One aspect we don’t like: the keyboard is too small and the inclusion of the touch wheel is just odd.

The presentation is beautiful, but we doubt Apple would go for something this fussy.

Apple Table could shake up the netbook industry

Apple could roll out a tablet PC in early 2010, according to a new research note by Piper Jaffray. The Apple tablet PC would be cheaper than a MacBook but still more expensive than the mininotebooks or netbooks that are currently dominating sales on the lower end of the PC market. Despite that higher price point, Piper Jaffray sees an Apple tablet PC as a challenging competitor in the netbook market, as well for mobile devices from companies such as Amazon.com.

As rumors of an Apple tablet PC reach a fever pitch, a new research note by Piper Jaffray suggests that any such device would be a significant revenue generator and drastically affect the market for mininotebooks, also known as netbooks.

The Aug. 7 report, written by analyst Gene Munster along with analysts Michael Olson and Andrew Murphy, predicts that Apple will roll out "a touch-screen device similar to an iPod Touch but larger."

The report stated, "We spoke with an Asian component supplier that has received orders from Apple for a touch-screen device to be fulfilled by late [2009]. This data point underscores our thesis that a tablet will likely launch in early [2010]."

Piper Jaffray has been steadily beating the drum for months about the prospect of an ultraportable Apple tablet PC. In May, the research company issued a report suggesting that the tablet would feature a 7- to 10-inch screen and retail for between $500 and $700, effectively filling a strategic gap for Apple between the iPod Touch and its low-end Mac desktops.

Apple & Verizon: Working Together on a Tablet?

A rumor has begun to spread, stating that Verizon and Apple are in cahoots together to design a tablet computer. This tablet would be a large touchscreen (Boy Genius describes it as a 'giant iPod touch') with either an on screen keyboard, or a full physical keyboard. It's possible that this tablet would attempt to bridge the gap between tablets and E-Readers by fulfilling both functions.

Apple is supposedly working on this project with Verizon, who will subsidize the device and offer it on their network. That more than likely means this tablet will be 3G enabled. The mock-up we've seen looks gorgeous, and I very badly want to believe that this rumor is true. An Apple tablet wouldn't just be a great product, it would energize every other manufacturer in the business to both up their game, and lower their prices.

Unfortunately, this rumor has a very good chance of being nothing more than dead air. This rumor comes from The Street which is run by Jim Cramer and friends. Cramer is far from a reliable source, and he's already gotten in trouble for advising hedge funds to spread false rumors about Apple. While that alone isn't reason to dismiss this rumor, it should be enough to convince you to take it with several big grains of salt.

Rumor: Apple Netbook coming in October?

We get a lot of e-mails from folks asking us when to expect a Netbook from Apple. Let's make something absolutely clear: despite all the previous rumors, we have no idea if, or when, such a product will exist. But we will let report to you when a new (or recycled) rumor pops in the blogsphere.

The latest: the Mandarin-language publication Chinese Times is reporting that Apple will release a Netbook in October. We tend to put a question mark on our rumor headlines, but there doesn't seem to be any question mark in the reporting here--at least according to a translation of the article that appeared within MacRumors.com's forum.

Naturally, this all comes from a "reliable source." Here's the key quote in the article (again, we are going by the translation that appeared on MacRumors):

Taiwan's high-tech supply chain companies said Apple will debut its first Netbook in October; Apple will pose itself to tackle the Christmas shopping season. Three (Taiwanese) corporations--Foxconn, Wintek, Dynapack--have received direct orders from Apple. (Wintek will be producing touch screens and providing relevant technologies for Apple.) In addition, some supply chain companies have privately confirmed deals related to Netbooks."

The report also goes on to add that "Apple will not follow the current market trend (by producing Netbooks with screens about 10.2 or 10.1 inches in diagonal length). Instead, Apple will produce (touch) screens with about 9.7 inches in diagonal length." As to cost, word is that it will come in around $800, which is about what we'd expect an Apple Netbook to cost (if the company decides to make one).

There are also some interesting updates tacked on to the MacRumors post as additional stories have come out. One update says there are "unconfirmed rumors" that British reporters pried Apple Netbook info out of several Foxconn Electronics employees and that although Foxconn refused to publicly comment on the rumors, the reporters may have gotten some sort of private confirmation on the rumors' validity from the company itself.

Again, these are all rumors, and with Apple, you never know what kind of bizarre smoke screen it might put out there. But in the past, the company has had some issues with leaks coming out of its suppliers in Taiwan, so we're thinking there might be some truth to this one--especially since the same rumor hit back in March. Either way, we do expect Apple to release new iPods this fall (as it has the last few years). Whether one of them will be a giant iPod Touch remains to be seen.
